  • 1. Boston drivers

This is the land of close calls. Boston drivers present a sort of ?chicken or egg? paradox. I became a rather more aggressive driver when I started venturing out onto the streets of the greater Boston area. But is that true of every Boston driver? Did they become aggressive to fit Boston streets, or did Boston streets become dangerous to suit aggressive drivers?

    2. Tucked-in shirts for girls

...okay, that?s a lie. I think lots of girls pull it off really well. I just hate how I look when I have to tuck my shirt in.

    3. Art class slackers

They are the minority, honestly, but people who walk in an hour late to a three hour class are very conspicuous. And for goodness? sake, if you arrive that late, do NOT jump into the conversation as if you know what we?re talking about!

    4. Inexplicable stubbed toes

Generally happens after long sports practices, but sometimes after hikes or long shopping trips. I don?t like not knowing what happened!

    5. Academic bureaucrats

I will explain this better later, but it wasn?t until this year that I discovered that colleges are bureaucracies like any other. It can take a surprisingly substantial effort to find really helpful, caring advisors, but gods it is worth it. Shout out to my advisors, Karen Kosinski, Mary Glaser, and Susan Lush. Jeanne Dillon just retired, but she was on the list, too. Professor Kosinski, in particular, has been my savior, working through the half-dozen possible schedules for my next few semesters, and working her butt off to help me graduate with all the right words on my degrees.

    6. The terrifyingly loud tone the TEMS radios give out before a call

Gave my Ancient Greek and Roman Medicine class a near heart attack when it went off. I always forget how absurdly loud it is.

    7. Dry lips

I?m an unashamed lip balm addict.

    8. Shin splints

Mine just came back, after disappearing since senior year of high school. There?s just so little you can do for them. "Ice and rest."

    9. How early the dining halls close

Thank goodness for refrigerators, because I definitely need food after 9 pm.

And, just to balance things out, these are a few things I absolutely adore:

    1. Amazon.com

They. Sell. Everything. In the whole world. All of it. And they deliver. It is perfection.

    2. Mail services

Way far out of the way, but as you might have guessed, my frequent orders from Amazon have made me quite a few friends in the mail room.

    3. Junk food at The Commons

Chicken fingers and spicy fries are my favorite after-practice indulgence. Sooooo gooooood.

    4. Zipcars

I don?t have to pay for on-campus parking, I don?t have to pay for gas, and I don?t have to pay for insurance, but I can still go grocery shopping at the drop of a hat. Win!

    5. Listening to people rant during practice

Our #1, in particular, is hysterically noisy. She yells and jumps around a lot when things go wrong. I don?t give her enough credit, though, because I was surprised at how composed she is during actual match play.

    6. The bright red trees outside my window

Our trees lost their leaves later than most, so I got to look out to a fiery forest every morning for weeks after all the other trees were barren.

    7. Free Tufts/SMFA student entry to the MFA

I can draw from masterpieces on my lunch breaks. How cool is that?

    8. Facilities

Sometimes it takes a while for things to get fixed, but when a light goes out in my suite, all we have to do is put in a work order online, and one day we?ll come home and it will magically be fixed.

    9. Being an EMT

It?s such a rush to be called to help people, be looked to for support and care. It makes me want to be a better person, so that I can take care of everyone else better.

    10. My squash captain

Technically, we have two, but one is abroad, so it all falls to Ann, our mother hen. I have no idea how she keeps track of all of us, but she knows our schedules, our wants, our needs, and she somehow both leads us and takes care of us. She?s the bomb.

    11. Fabulous, meandering, spontaneously-occurring philosophical discussions

This semester, we?ve had a lot of these in my Performance class. Our teacher starts the class by asking how everyone is doing, and 5 minutes later we?re discussing social norms and gender stereotypes. College is the best.

    12. My dinky little printer

The paper tray is falling off, the feed is clogged with dust, but it has served me since freshman year, and it just keeps chugging along. I think it might outlive me.

WHAT DOES ANYONE THIS HAVE TO DO WITH THE HANJIE? NOTHING! IT IS AS POINTLESS AS THE PUZZLE ABOVE

    GREAT JOB :) CHEERS!
