"The Eight Strokes of the Clock" is a collection of short stories in which Arsene Lupin is a gentleman seducer rather than a burglar. The third story is located in Etretat and starts with this desciption of the scenery:
"The sea lying between the cliffs and the clouds on the horizon, might have suggested a mountain lake slumbering in the hollow of the enclosing rocks were it not for this crispness in the air and those indefinite pale colours in the sky which give a special charm to certain days in Normandy"
