On the Advent wreath, there are four candles. Each Advent sunday, one more candle is lighted. Let me tell you a story about these candles.
The four candles were slowly burning. There was so much silence that their words were audible.
The first one was whispering: "I am peace, but no one can keep me lighted. I think I will die soon." Its flame flickered, and it went out.
The second one said: "I am trust, I am still the most fragile and I fear I will die quickly." A slight breeze blew, and it went out.
Saddened, the third one spoke: "I am love. I am not strong enough to stay lit. I am often abandoned and some don't understand how important I am. To many people forget to love even their close friends and family." With these words, it went out.
Suddenly, a child comes in the room and see the three candles out. "No! Why are you out? You should stay on until the end of the year." Then, he starts crying.
That is when the fourth candle expresses itself: "Don't cry child, as long as my flame will burn, we will be able to relight the other candles. I am hope."
Thus, the child takes the candle with overjoyed eyes, and relight peace, trust, and love...
