The Indian yellow was extracted from a paste called Purrey. Most sources indicate that this paste was obtained from the evaporation of the urine of cows fed with mango leaves and water. Indian yellow pigment was a very expensive dye, cows producing only fifty grams a day and dying in two years of their special diet. This production, in Bengal, was banned in 1908.
